Zip lining Costa Rica, the premier outdoor activity, is the most thrilling way to see the Costa Rican Rainforest and should be on everyone’s Costa Rica to-do list.
Zip lining, officially known as a Canopy Tour, is the signature outdoor adventure in Costa Rica and offers a unique and exhilarating way to experience the Rainforest.
Picture yourself, high above the trees, zooming along a secure cable looking down at the lush rain forest. Along with some absolutely stunning views, you might also see one, two, or five, of some of the most exotic creatures and/or hundreds of strange mysterious plants that spend their entire lives up amongst the clouds.
A zip lining Costa Rica adventure works like this: We always begin with your safety. Trained staff will size you for your harness and helmet and make sure they are strapped and cozy. After the fittings, there’ll be a brief safety talk where staff will go over proper position, how to increase your speed, or decrease it if you want, and answer any questions. Next you’ll get to do a zip line demo on a small zip line to near the ground to get the feel of how it all works. Once you’re comfortable, you’re off for one of the most exciting times you’ll have on your Costa Rican vacation!
The typical set up of a zip line course has about a dozen cables suspended from tree to tree. Each of these trees has an elevated platform built around it for you to leave from and land on. At your first platform a trained guide will securely fasten your harness via a clip to a pulley that is attached to the zip cable. With a small push you’re off and zipping through the air above the trees.
Most companies we work with now offer additional fun with their adventures like a Tarzan Swing, a swing that allows you to experience a brief free fall, or Flying Like Superman, where you can choose to wear a back harness and dash through the air chest-down.
Please take note: this exhilarating adventure requires a minimum age of 6.
