It is Costa Rica’s thrilling steep topography that makes Canyoning Costa Rica an exhilarating experience you shouldn’t miss, and even though it is a relatively new sport it is becoming one of the most popular activities on people’s itinerary.
What is Canyoning? It is everything rolled into one adventure. Canyoning entails descending gorges, valleys, canyons, by hiking, repelling, swimming, jumping, swinging, climbing, sliding and zip-lining, anything that will work, be fun and safely get you down.
However, before we begin this adventure we need to start off with safety. After a helmet and harness fitting, our guides will begin to educate you on procedure. They’ll go over how it all works and what you can expect, teaching you the basics of repelling and some of the other necessary descending techniques that we’ll be utilizing throughout the trip. Don’t worry if you feel overwhelmed and don’t remember it all, our guide will accompany you and can remind you, demonstrate, or help you how to descend the canyons.
The best equipment is open-toed sandals, and quick drying shorts and t-shirts. While some people opt to wear running shoes they soon find they get water-logged, heavy and take a long time to dry out.
Now that you’re outfitted and educated it’s time to being your canyoning adventure with a short hike into the surrounding mountains.
Upon reaching our destination, the top of one of Costa Rica’s superb canyons, your guides will determine how to get down and review it with you.
The first challenge is overcoming the fear and adrenaline as you look over the 100ft waterfall! That first step is the hardest, and once you’ve conquered that the rest falls into place.
At the bottom, it’s time to relax, and watch as the rest of your group arrives. Once everyone is down, the next adventure adventure begins on the next canyon. And so it goes for the next few hours as you make your way down through this amazing paradise.
